Some areas like floor 2 are less restricted, but, they encourage a little common courtesy. For example, the 2nd floor has special areas designated for phone conversations. But no, some fools decide that they are just going to talk anywhere, ruining people’s studies and what not.

The other day in my world literature class we viewed the film Hotel Rwanda. During the post screening-discussion, one of my peers asked the question, “Why Africa”? What he meant was, why is it that Africa always seems to have a lot of war/conflict among its people. Now, our class had a huge set of discussion questions, so we didn’t get to cover his. But, I’d like to talk about it for a bit.

Here is Africa:

AFRICA

Now, as we all know, Africa is home to many people. Just like in any country, the people are split up into groups. It just so happens that in Africa’s case, these group divisions were established centuries ago. Now, at times these groups, or tribes, would fight. Sometimes over land, sometimes over other things.

But that still doens’t answer the question.

However, colonialism does.

Europe saw Africa as free land, so, decided to come in and colonize certain parts.

So what does this mean? Well, basically “The West” came in and carved up the different territories of Africa. Now, let’s talk about conflict. So, as we already said, Africa had established groups. We also said that sometimes these groups fought. So now, “The West” and basically says to these tribes, “hey, you all are now part of the same country, play nice.” In some cases, tribes who had been feuding for ages were now told that they were part of a country now.

So, does that mean the fighting stops?

Of course not!

If tribe A has been warring with tribe B for 2000 years, what makes you think they are just going to magically stop now?

Now, this isn’t a full explanation of why war.conflict occurs in Africa, but it is a partial. Many times, colonial countries were established without full knowledge of what has going on between groups and tribes. Which is why I think there was been a large amount of fighting in the region.

But hey, these are just my thoughts. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Peace

One day I was talking to one of my friends and she started telling me about this show on MTV. To be honest, the show sounded like crap.

Well, one day I was at home chilling; I had no where to go and nothing to do. So, I filled through the channels, and guess what was on, that’s right, Friend Zone. It was actually a marathon, so i got to watch multple episodes.

That show is HORRIBLE!

For One, the people who were getting asked out on the date NEVER seemed to know that it was coming. Now come on, people throw off vibes, so these foo’s should have picked up on them.

Also, the ending of the show is always so polar. Either the ending is super happy or the ending is really bad and the friends break up.

I’m back!

So let’s talk about the “Friend Zone” (the actual place).

You ever been feeling a girl, you know, falling REALLY heavy for her? You are trying to talk to her and stuff, and then she hits you with the “let’s just be friends.” Well, my friend, you have just been thrown in the Friend Zone. Now, the Friend Zone is sort of like jail; it’s EXTREMELY hard to get out of. And when you do get out (if you ever do), stuff may not be the same.

Yeah, so, down with the Friend Zone.

The following match came from TNA. Let me set the scene for you first. Triple X was a team made up of Low Ki, Christopher Daniels, and Elix Skipper. During the early days of TNA, Triple X feuded with America’s Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm). The two teams battled off and on for a long time. The feud came to a close at TNA’s Turning Point PPV when Skipper, Daniels, Harris, and Storm had an awesome cage match. Those four men told a story in that ring.

If you are a wrestling fan, this is must watch.

A couple of years ago I began watch Anime more heavily. I had been a big fan when I was younger, but then I backed away for a little bit. When anime started to spark my interest again, I started looking for new shows to watch. One series that I really enjoyed is a little show called Claymore (I believe I have talked about it before).

Well, I have begun watching the series again; I started a couple of days ago. This makes the third time that I have viewed the series. But this time, I noticed something that I think is worth talking about a little bit. Claymore actually has very interesting view on men/women and their different roles in society.

First, it might be helpful to provide some background info. So, here is a passage from Wikipedia:

In a world where humans coexist with sentient monsters called yoma (妖魔 yōma?) that feed on human innards, a group, simply called the Organization, has created an order of half-human, half-yoma warriors to protect humans from yoma, for a large fee. Based on the large swords they carry, the people of this world have named these warriors Claymores. They are also referred to as “silver-eyed witches”, based on their appearance and seemingly cold nature toward others. Claymores, as well as yoma, possess bodily energy called yoki, which allows them to perform superhuman feats. Claymores who charge their yoki auras beyond the limit that their bodies can sustain turn into hideous creatures called awakened beings. Like yoma, awakened beings crave human flesh, the difference being that awakened beings are much more powerful. Each Claymore is ranked based on his or her strength and ability in comparison to other Claymores. There are 47 ranks corresponding to the number of regions of the continent, and each Claymore is assigned a different region of the continent wherein to slay yoma.

During the premise, a Claymore named Clare heads to a small town and meets Raki, a boy whose parents were killed by a yoma. Later that night, Clare heads toward Raki’s home and kills his brother Zaki, who is revealed to be the yoma that killed Raki’s parents. The yoma had taken over Zaki’s body when he and Raki witnessed the murder of their parents at the hands of the same yoma when they were but children. Out of gratitude, Raki ends up following Clare from town to town during her missions to exterminate yoma. The two travel together until they are separated when Clare is forced to battle a sadistic Claymore named Ophelia. Before parting, Clare promises to find him if she survives. The story becomes a tale of revenge, as Clare seeks to confront someone from her past.

Now for those of you all wondering, Claymore relies on a large group of female protagonists. There are actually very few males in the series at all.

But, since males are the minority, let’s start with them first.

Weak Males:

The main ma character is Raki. Raki is probably one of the weakest characters that I’ve ever since in a series. Rarely does he fight back when he and Clare are in a tough spot and for most of the series he can be seen crying in a corner somewhere (literally). What’s worse is that Raki really wants to be brave, but he can’t bring himself to actually do it. His saving grace is that he is very loyal.

Now, most of the evil creatures, the yoma, are portrayed as males. Many of them are slow and a lot of them are just dumb, which is high they are so easily beaten.

Let’s talk about the lore of Claymore for a moment. It is mentioned that back in the day, there were both male and female Claymore fighting evil, but event all the males were phased out.

But why!?

Well, here is how the series explains it. Since Claymores are both human and yoma, they have increase strength. In battle they are able to switch on their yoma side for more power. Now, each Claymore has yoki limits. Every time a Claymore passes their yoki limit, becomes harder for them to stay human.

Simple right?

Not so much.

You see, when a Claymore passes his or her limits, it’s the equivalent of a pleasurable sexual experience. When a Claymore surpasses it last yoki limit, not only do they turn into a great monster (an Awakened Being), but they also experience what is the equivalent of a giant orgasm.

It was said that the male Claymore turned into Awakened Beings faster because of the sexual aspect.

So, basically, according to this show, most males are slow and only want sex.

“Strong” Males:

The leaders of “the Organization,” the group that creates Claymores are males. They are portrayed as sneaky and manipulative. The only reason why I classify them as powerful is because they call the shots. But even then some female Claymores start to rebel.

Isley, the ruler of the North, is probably the only true powerful male in the series. He is all about war. But, unfortunately, he doesn’t show up till maybe the last six or seven episodes (there are 27), so there isn’t much to say about him.

Now, let’s go to the females!

Weak Females:

None!

Ha, just kidding, kind of. The only weak female characters in the show are children and woman who are being attacked by yoma.

Strong Females:

All of them!

Just kidding again, kind of. Like I said before, ALL the current Claymores (the ones that you get to know and love) are female.

Now, what I thought was interesting was the ranking system. Each Claymore has a rank; 1 is the highest, 47 is the lowest. Our main protagonist, Clare, is number 47. Even so, she is able to fight and contender with people who are in the single digits and she is able to fight the most powerful Awakened Being in the World.

That's Clare

By the way, the most powerful Awakened Being is Priscilla.

Dang, we men are too weak to even be the strongest monster!?

Conclusion:

I slightly noticed some of these sentiments the first two times I saw the series, but this third viewing really drove things home.

Now, I wonder if the creature had these views in mind when he or she created the idea for the show. Regardless, I just thought it was something to note.

BUT, I encourage you to watch the show; it’s still really great. It’s on my top 10 favorite animes of all time.

The other day I was on Youtube just looking up some stuff, and I ran across some Megaman video game reviews. Back in the day, I used to be a BIG Megaman fan. My favorite game out of the series (the original series anyway) had to be Megaman 8.

One of the things that I remember about that game is the music. Now, Megaman has always had great music, but Megaman 8 had some AMAZING tracks on it. Heck, even the intro-stage’s music was bagging.

The graphics were on point for the time as well. To be honest, that old 8-Bit Megaman hurt the eyes. But the 32-Bit Megaman was fresh, styling’, etc.

So, here is the plot, taken from Wikipedia:

Mega Man 8 is a continuation of the original Mega Man series storyline. Cutscenes in the game are presented both in-game and with newly introduced anime-style FMVs. Like other games in the series, it takes place in an unspecified year during the 21st century (20XX). The game opens as two alien robots engage in a climactic battle in the depths of space. Ultimately both of them plummet towards Earth, critically injured. Meanwhile, Mega Man and his canine companion Rush are called by Dr. Light to investigate strange energy readings on a nearby island. On the island, Mega Man finds Dr. Wily flying away with a strange purple orb. Before chasing him, he sees a damaged robot and asks for Dr. Light to pick it up and try to repair it. Dr. Wily then releases four new Robot Masters to combat Mega Man, Frost Man, Tengu Man, Clown Man, and Grenade Man. Each time he destroys one, the robotic hero receives a purple orb like the one Dr. Wily confiscated. Each of the Robot Masters are empowered with a strange energy, and it seems that this power comes from the new energy cores that Wily has infused them with.

After Mega Man defeats all four, he returns to the lab and Dr. Light tells him that the robot he found should be fine if he rests for a while. After Dr. Light and Mega Man leave the lab, the robot awakens, sees the purple energy, becomes enraged, and flies off into the distance. Mega Man follows suit on Rush. Mega Man finds him in a mine shaft on the other side of the globe, and after battling the robot, Proto Man shows up and tells Mega Man that Dr. Wily’s new fortress, “Wily Tower,” is just ahead. Mega Man goes ahead, but is captured by one of Wily’s giant robotic creations. The robot saves him, introduces himself as Duo, and reveals his purpose to Mega Man. Duo explains that the purple orbs are “Evil Energy,” and he has been traveling the universe tracking down this energy and trying to destroy it before it engulfs the entire world. However, Wily Tower has a barrier around it that prevents him from taking out the source. Duo tells Mega Man to destroy the four other Robot Masters that hold the key to the barrier, Astro Man, Sword Man, Search Man, and Aqua Man, while he collects and extinguishes the rest of the world’s Evil Energy.

Once the Robot Masters have been beaten, Wily Tower’s barrier is lifted and Mega Man makes his way through it, defeating the hordes of robotic henchmen inside, including his rival Bass, and ultimately, the evil doctor himself. The “Evil Energy” is destroyed before it is allowed to spread throughout the world, and Wily’s newest compound is demolished with Mega Man inside, who is infected by the Evil Energy.Duo arrives, examines Mega Man, and cures him of the Evil Energy, seemingly eradicating the last of the Evil Energy on Earth.

Megaman 8 was released on Sega Saturn and Playstation. So if you got a PS3, I think you can still play it.

Anyway, that’s enough for today, I’ll come back with more thoughts later. Peace!
